Surgical mesh

The Dolphin Mesh range

Surgical mesh is a sterile implant used to reinforce weakened tissue during hernia repair and soft-tissue reconstruction. Dolphin Mesh manufactures polypropylene, composite and semi absorbable meshes — in flat sheets and pre-shaped 3D anatomical forms — for open and laparoscopic procedures.

What surgical mesh is

A net-like prosthesis that provides mechanical support to the abdominal wall, reinforcing tissue that has weakened or separated. In hernia repair it bridges or covers the defect so surrounding tissue can integrate with the implant for a tension-free repair.

When it is used

Across inguinal, ventral, incisional, umbilical and other hernia repairs, open and laparoscopic. Composites with a visceral-side barrier are intended for intraperitoneal placement; pre-shaped 3D meshes for laparoscopic inguinal repair.

How to choose

Selection depends on the defect, the approach, the plane of placement and surgeon preference — whether a visceral barrier is needed, the pore structure, and flat or pre-shaped. Final selection rests with the operating surgeon.

The range

Ten products, four families.

From knitted polypropylene to dual-sided composites with a visceral-side barrier, semi absorbable constructions and mesh fixation.

Dolphin composite meshes

Key features of Dolphin composite surgical meshes.

Low weight

Less foreign body reaction.

Low profile

Easy passage through the trocar.

Permanent barrier

Permanent protection against adhesion, shrinkage and migration.

Laser cut

Fused and smooth edges with high-precision designs.

Easily customisable

Can be trimmed by the surgeon without frayed or sharp edges.

No preparation

Ready-to-use device — no need to immerse in any solution.

Performance and ‘first’ statements are from Futura Surgicare product literature. Always refer to the Instructions for Use supplied with the product.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is surgical mesh made of?
Dolphin Mesh surgical meshes are made from monofilament polypropylene, composites of polypropylene with materials such as polyethylene, PTFE, polyester or titanium, and semi absorbable constructions combining polypropylene with poliglecaprone 25. Refer to each product for its specific composition.
Is surgical mesh permanent?
Non-absorbable meshes are intended to remain implanted as a permanent support unless removal is clinically indicated. Semi absorbable meshes retain a permanent polypropylene component while an absorbable component is gradually resorbed.
What is a 3D anatomical mesh?
A 3D anatomical mesh is pre-shaped to follow the contours of the anatomy — for example the inguinal region — rather than being a flat sheet, and is designed to support placement and handling during laparoscopic repair.
How is surgical mesh fixed?
Mesh can be fixed with sutures or tackers, at the discretion of the operating surgeon based on the procedure and surgical technique.
Are the meshes supplied sterile?
Yes. Dolphin meshes are supplied sterile for single use and must not be reused, reprocessed or re-sterilized. Do not use if the package is opened, damaged or beyond its expiry date.
